Dr. Vimmi Sadarangani
Sindhi Poet, Author, Translator, Scholar and Educationist
Main areas of research: Sindhi language, literature, society and culture. Folklore, Sufi Poetry, Women Studies, Partition Studies, Oral History.
An eminent Sindhi Poet Dr. Vimmi Sadarangani has authored fifteen books of poems, children literature and Sindhi language learning. Her poems and papers are published in various national and international literary journals.
Dr. Vimmi is an Associate Professor of Sindhi at Tolani College of Arts and Science, Adipur (Kutch) since 1995. She has done her Ph.D. on ‘Problems of translation between Hindi and Sindhi’ from Gujarat University in 2010. She has completed UGC Major Research Project on ‘Identity Journey of Sindhi Women’ in 2017. She has taught Sindhi Language Course at Singapore Sindhi Association (1995) and University of Illinois, US (2000). Presently, she is doing oral history project related to Sindhi community of Kutch.
She has shared her expertise in Sindhi language, education and literature with Ministry of Culture, Sahitya Akademi, Central Institute of Indian Languages, Central Hindi Directorate, Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology, National Council for Promotion of Sindhi Language, Gujarat Text Book Bureau, National Open School, National Institute of Open Schooling, Punjabi University, Ahmedabad University, Central University of Gujarat, Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat, Indian Institute of Sindhology, Sindhi Sangat, Sindh University etc.
She has participated in Jaipur Literature Festival, Praktiti Poetry Festival, Gateway Literature Festival, Asia Pacific Writers and Translators Conference, Sahitya Akademi International Literature Festival and many other such events. She has visited Sindh as a member of Sindhi writers and artists delegation for Shah Sachal Sami International Peace Conference in 2004 at Karachi and for an international conference on Sufi Poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai by Culture Department of Sindh in 2012.
Dr Vimmi has received several awards from Gujarat Sindhi Academy, NCERT, Sindhi Academy (Delhi), Akhil Bharat Sindhi Boli ai Sahit Sabha, Sindhu Welfare Trust (Jaipur), SPARROW (Mumbai) etc. for her contribution in the field of literature and education.
She is a former member of Sindhi Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi (2008-12), National Council for Promotion of Sindhi Language, Min. of HRD, GOI (2004-14), Member of Experts Committee for Junior and Senior Fellowships, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India (2013-14).
She is the local organizer of ‘100 Thousand Poets for Change’, an international annual poetry event of since 2011.
